Write to your representatives (MS Word) today and ask them to co-sponsor the Safe Building Code Incentive Act of 2015 (H.R. 1748). H.R. 1748 is designed to focus on using common-sense mitigation measures to reduce the costs of disaster response. The bipartisan legislation promotes stronger and safer construction for all Americans by providing an additional 4% in post-disaster grants by the Federal Emergency Management Agency to states that have adopted and enforced model building codes. IAFC Offers Tax Reform Comments

May 26, 2016 - The IAFC submitted comments on tax reform to the U.S. House Committee on Ways and Means. In these comments, the IAFC suggested making changes to allow volunteer firefighters and EMS personnel to recieve nominal incentives without being considered taxable income and to use the tax code to incentivize property owners to install fire sprinkler systems in their propoerties. Read the IAFC's full comments today

Fire Safe Cigarette Law Reduces Home Fires in MA
February 13, 2014 - A recent study by the American Journal of Public Health found that a law requiring the sale of fire safe cigarettes has led to a 28% decrease in home fires caused by cigarettes from 2004-2010.

Fire Sprinkler Incentive Act Introduced in Senate
June 16, 2013 - Senators Tom Carper (D-DE) and Susan Collins (R-ME) introduced the Fire Sprinkler Incentive Act (S. 1163) to encourage property owners to retrofit their buildings with fire sprinkler systems.

IAFC Recommends Congress Enact Fire Sprinkler Legislation
April 15, 2013 - The IAFC submitted comments to the House Committee on Ways and Means to encourage Congress to examine legislation to incentivize retrofitting properties with fire sprinkler systems (pdf). The IAFC filed these comments as the House of Representatives announced that it would accept proposals on reforms to real estate tax policy among other areas.
