Mission The mission of the Fire and Life Safety Section (FLSS) is to reduce injury, life loss and property loss by advancing the field of fire prevention and life safety with leadership and vision for fire safety professionals.
- Structure fire deaths are reduced to zero and property damage is limited to the area origin.
- Firefighter deaths from fireground operations are reduced to zero.
- Fire departments’ organizational cultures place greater priority on fire prevention and life safety.
- The public is clearly aware of the fire problem and their role in prevention.

Call for Candidates for the 2025 FLSS Election
In preparation for the 2025 election, your Fire and Life Safety Section is seeking candidates for:
- International Director: two-year term, expiring at FRI in 2027
- Secretary/Treasurer: two-year term, expiring at FRI in 2027
- Two At-large members: three-year terms, expiring at FRI in 2028
We are looking for motivated members who would like to move the section forward and advance chief officer leadership in the fire and emergency service.
Candidate Application
Members running for office shall provide the following information to the Elections Committee Chair and the staff liaison no later than the announced deadline.
- Name and office sought
- Employer and position within the organization
- Their supervisor, where applicable, shall provide written authorization for them to serve in the position being sought
- Disclosure of any potential conflict of interest, including private contractual or consulting relationships
- A maximum of 250-word biographical information/platform
- Provide a picture of yourself for the announcement for election
Eligibility for Election to Office for FLSS
The international director shall be a non-retired chief officer of a fire department and a regular member of the IAFC, and the section shall be in good standing at the time of filing and upon installation.
The secretary/treasurer shall be a non-retired or retired chief officer who remains active in the mission and vision of the FLSS and is a Regular or Affiliate member in good standing of the IAFC and the section throughout their term of office.
The at-large members shall be non-retired chief officers or retired chief officers who stay active in the mission and vision of the FLSS and are full members in good standing of the IAFC and the section throughout their term in office.
