FBI IED info card (pdf)

FBI overview article (pdf)

The 1993 World Trade Center bombing, the 1995 Oklahoma City bombing and the 2010 attempted bombing of Times Square are widely publicized examples of incidents involving improvised explosive devices (IEDs). As the IED threat in the United States persists, it's imperative that the fire and emergency service be further educated and informed about common materials encountered in IEDs.

The FBI has developed an IED information card and article for first responders to download and use.

The bifold card provides a user-friendly overview of chemicals commonly utilized in IEDs. This ultimately may help first responders recognize situations where it may be advantageous to notify other authorities, such as bomb technicians.

The article provides an overview of the card and further information about the components that can be found in an improvised explosive.
