Chantilly, Va. – The Volunteer and Combination Officers Section (VCOS) of the International Association of Fire Chiefs (IAFC) has opened the application process for a Symposium in the Sun Scholarship. This scholarship is meant to assist chief officers from volunteer and combination departments, which lack the financial resources to offer professional development to their leaders.
Symposium in the Sun is an elite conference that sells out every year and offers education on topics specific for volunteer and combination departments. It was created to help leaders address the unique challenges facing departments of all sizes.
“While Symposium in the Sun was designed to be affordable for all volunteer and combination leaders, we recognize that some departments need a little assistance,” said Chief Charles Flynn, vice chair of the VCOS. “The Symposium in the Sun Scholarship helps us bring more leaders to the conference, so they too can enjoy the benefits of interacting with their peers, strengthening their leadership skills and bringing home actionable takeaways.”
Applications are being accepted for the Symposium in the Sun Scholarship until August 10. (Applicants for the scholarships must be members of the IAFC and VCOS.)
