The IAFC's Company Officer Mentor Program is off to a rousing start, with eight IAFC company-officer members currently enrolled in the program and more joining weekly.
The program is designed to be simple, allowing prospective mentees to go online and read the bios for each mentor, identify mentors by areas of interest and then electronically reach out to their prospective mentors through IAFC KnowledgeNet, the IAFC's private social network. Mentees and mentors can also determine the best method for interacting, whether in person or by phone, email, text or video chat.
Feedback from the initial group of mentees has been quite positive. One reported,
The mentoring program has been a great asset to me and my department. My mentor and I have set educational goals and he is helping me as I prepare for my Fire Officer Credentialing. We have had opportunities to discuss internal issues and feedback has been very constructive. We are planning on meeting at FRI to discuss more personal goals. I really wasn’t sure about doing the mentoring program; however, my mentor has made this interaction very rewarding and I am very glad I decided to it. Thank you for such a great program.
This program is a benefit provided exclusively to IAFC company-officer members. The list of mentors, along with their bios, is available on the Company Officer Mentor Program webpage.
