FAQs on the Transition to Calendar Year Membership

As IAFC transitions to a calendar year membership model, we want to ensure you have all the information you need. Below are answers to frequently asked questions to help guide you through this process.

  1. Why is IAFC switching to a calendar year membership?
We are transitioning to a calendar year membership cycle to simplify the renewal process for both members and the association. This change will make it easier to manage invoicing and membership benefits consistently across all members.

  2. How will my membership be affected by the switch to calendar year?
Your membership will now expire on December 31st of each year, rather than based on your anniversary join date. To facilitate the transition, you will receive a prorated invoice in November to cover the period between your anniversary date to December 31, 2025. No member will be charged for more than 15 months of membership during this transition.

  3. What is a prorated invoice and how is it calculated?
A prorated invoice ensures you’re only paying for the months needed to align your membership with the calendar year cycle. The amount will be based on the remaining months between your membership renewal date and the end of 2025. No member will pay for more than 15 months of membership during this transition period.

  4. When will I receive my next renewal notice?
You will receive an electronic prorated renewal notice on November 1st, December 1st and January 1st, covering the transition period. During this time, you will also receive a paper invoice in the mail in December.

  5. Will the cost of my membership change with the transition?
The annual membership fees will remain the same. However, you will receive a prorated invoice in November 2024 to cover the transitional months from your anniversary date to the end of the year. No member will be billed for more than 15 months of membership during the transition.

  6. What happens if I just renewed my membership?
If you have recently renewed, you will receive a prorated invoice in November to extend your membership through December 31, 2025. The prorated amount will depend on how many months are left from your current membership to the end of 2025.

  7. Are any members exempt from this transition?
Life members and past presidents are exempt from membership fees, except for Metro Members. Metro Members will receive a renewal notice and follow the new calendar year structure. The transition and prorated fees still apply to them.

  8. Can I renew my membership early?
Yes, you may renew your membership early. However, regardless of when you renew, you will still be transitioned to the new calendar year cycle, with the appropriate prorated fee applied if necessary.

  9. How do I ensure my benefits won’t be interrupted during the transition?
As long as you pay your prorated invoice in November, your membership benefits will continue uninterrupted during the transition to the calendar year cycle.

  10. What happens if I don’t pay my prorated invoice?
Failure to pay the prorated invoice may result in a lapse in your membership, affecting your access to IAFC benefits and services until the invoice is paid.

  11. Can I cancel my membership during the transition?
Yes, you can cancel your membership at any time. However, please note that refunds will not be issued for any unused membership periods, including during the prorated period.
