I'm truly honored, humbled and excited to have the opportunity to serve you, the members of our association, as your president. I fully understand and accept the responsibility that has been placed upon me and I appreciate the confidence of the membership in allowing me to serve the IAFC in this capacity.
You have my sincere commitment to work with our dedicated staff and board of directors to conduct the business of our association in a manner meeting the high expectations and standards established over the course of our history.
I am greatly looking forward to the upcoming year and getting to meet many more of you as I attend various division, state and section meetings and conferences. I welcome your input, thoughts and ideas on how we can improve the IAFC services and programs.
In my discussions with many of you over the past two years, I have heard some great ideas and listened to some legitimate concerns. This has made me realize that while we have many intelligent, progressive members doing some outstanding work on behalf of the association, we also need more members to become actively involved in an issue, project or program they're passionate about.
I would like to express my appreciation to my family for their love and support, my staff and members of the Oklahoma City Fire Department for their great work and my friends, colleagues and mentors in the IAFC and throughout the fire service for their confidence and encouragement.
I also want to express a special thanks to our immediate past president, Chief Bill Metcalf, for his tremendous leadership during his term as IAFC president. The association faced some difficult challenges during Bill’s term and we could not have had a better person to guide the board of directors through the tough decisions that had to be made.
I'm fortunate to have served with Bill and learned so much from him. I am convinced the IAFC is in a better position going forward because of Chief Metcalf’s leadership.
