International Association of Fire Chiefs

IAFC 2025 Conference Lineup – An Event for Every Leader

Every year, the International Association of Fire Chiefs (IAFC) hosts a full schedule of conferences that bring fire and EMS leaders together for collaboration, learning, networking, and more. Each event is distinct and offers unique opportunities for attendees to take advantage of.

Whether you’re an established fire chief or an up-and-coming officer, the IAFC has a conference for you. Here’s a quick look at our 2025 lineup.

Wildland-Urban Interface (WUI) Conference

Wildland Urban Interface conference

Wildfires are one of the most pressing issues facing the fire service community in 2025, making the Wildland-Urban Interface Conference more important than ever.

This event allows experts and personnel of all ranks and roles to share knowledge, discuss challenges, and contribute to developing new wildfire prevention, protection, and mitigation strategies. From preconference workshops featuring the latest modeling technology to dedicated networking events led by some of the field’s most respected experts, WUI 2025 is shaping up to be one of IAFC’s most popular events.

This conference will take place in Kansas City, MO, starting with the preconference on March 25 and ending on Saturday, March 29. Registration is open, and the early bird rate will be available until February 19. We hope to see you there!

Fire-Rescue Med (FRM) Conference

Fire-Rescue Med (FRM) Conference

One of our newer events, the Fire-Rescue Med Conference, has grown quickly since its inception as an online conference. Back by popular demand, it is now an in-person event centered explicitly around fire-based EMS's needs, challenges, and development.

With the conference’s rapid expansion and increasing reputation, it is now a vibrant affair bringing together industry veterans and newcomers. The 2025 exhibit hall will feature cutting-edge technology, the latest fire-rescue apparatus, and vendors from every market corner. Experts will lead our educational sessions in patient and responder safety, data technology, personnel management, government relations, and more.

This year’s event will take place from May 5 to 9 in Las Vegas, NV. The preconference will take place on May 4. Conference registration will open in February, and the early bird rate will be available until March 29.

Keep an eye on our social media accounts and official website (iafc.org) for the official announcement of the #FRM2025 registration period!

Community Risk Reduction Leadership (CRRL) Conference

Community Risk Reduction Leadership (CRRL) Conference

The fire service’s focus on community-led risk reduction has grown exponentially within the past decade, and the CRRL conference has grown from that focus. It is now a core event within the CRR community and has led to many significant developments in the field.

Community Risk Reduction Leadership (CRRL) Conference is explicitly designed for chief officers and other fire service managers looking to enhance their training, education, and outcomes of community risk reduction programs and platforms. The event prioritizes the pursuit of measurable outcomes and actionable strategies – not hypothetical scenarios – and provides an open forum for experts to share case studies, demonstrated best practices, and the latest data regarding the resilience of communities in every region of North America.

#CRRL2025 will occur in Glendale, AZ, from May 13-15. Those specifically interested in fire data collection and analysis should also consider attending the preconference Fire Data Analysis Working Group (FireDAWG) on May 12. Registration will open in late February, with early bird rates available until April 1.

International Hazardous Materials Response Teams (HAZMAT) Conference

International Hazardous Materials Response Teams (HAZMAT) Conference

The HAZMAT Conference is one of the IAFC’s most hands-on events and features an array of training, education, and strategic development programs to prepare personnel for every scenario.

Led by the IAFC HAZMAT Section, this four-day event includes sessions on biohazard management, weapons of mass destruction (WMDs), risk mitigation, decontamination, industrial chemical incidents, pipeline emergencies, and much more. The conference will also include exhibits and demonstrations featuring the latest developments in HAZMAT gear, monitoring equipment, remote technology, reporting software, and more.

Registration for #HAZMAT2025 will open in April. Follow our social media accounts and the IAFC website (iafc.org) to stay up to date on this and other events.

Fire-Rescue International (FRI) Conference

Fire-Rescue International (FRI) Conference

Fire-Rescue International (FRI) Conference is the IAFC’s premier event and also the largest, with thousands of fire and EMS personnel, government officials, industry representatives, and subject matter experts attending each year.

With dozens of educational sessions and workshops, an impressive lineup of keynote speakers and presenters, 100+ exhibitors, regularly sold-out networking events, in-person training opportunities, and so much more, FRI is genuinely a one-of-a-kind conference no fire or EMS leader will want to miss. Past FRI attendees have included world-renowned experts on every possible fire or fire-related topic, U.S. Fire Administrators (and other presidential appointees), internationally recognized media personalities, frontline innovators, Fortune 500 CEOs, and – most importantly – fire chiefs and officers from every region of the U.S., Canda, Mexico, and beyond.

Simply put, FRI is the fire service event of the year. It has continued to expand and develop since its inception in 1931 (and its official naming in 1994). We are proud to continue this tradition and invite all fire and EMS leaders to join us for #FRI2025. This year’s conference will occur in Orlando, FL, from August 13-15.   In the spring, we will announce an official registration opening date on our website, social media accounts, email list, and other official IAFC channels, so stay tuned!

Symposium in the Sun (SUN)

Symposium in the Sun (SUN)

Hosted annually by the IAFC’s Volunteer and Combination Officers Section (VCOS), the Symposium in the Sun Conference has also become increasingly popular over the past few years.

SUN’s focus is volunteer leadership development and training. The speaker and presenter lineup reflects the most experienced voices in recruitment, retention, personnel management, staff relations, and other related topics central to the operation of volunteer and combination departments of every size. The event also includes numerous networking opportunities and provides a forum for peer-led collaboration on the sector’s most pressing challenges.

The SUN conference is held in mid-November each year in Clearwater, FL. The registration period will be announced on all official IAFC channels and VCOS platforms. A save-the-date announcement will also be made prior to the registration period, so keep an eye out for that information.

Technology Summit International (TSI)

Technology Summit International (TSI)

As the collective voice of fire and EMS leadership, the IAFC has a vested interest in developing, innovating, and applying technology related to our industry. Technology Summit International (TSI) Conference brings those technologies directly to those who depend on them and provides hands-on experience.

2024’s conference was designed to reflect a participant-led, U.N. model. The success of this model was seen through the unprecedented attendance and productive engagement of over 550 attendees during #TSI2024, marking it as a sold-out event that the IAFC hopes to expand in 2025. The participation of dozens of exhibitors and vendors brought the themes of collaboration and innovation to life for conferencegoers. Sessions and workshops featuring AI development, data ethics, robotics, communications technology, drone response, and more offered valuable insights and training for fire leaders of every rank.

This year’s summit promises to be an even more significant and in-depth experience for participants. #TSI2025 will take place in Irving, TX, from December 9 to 11, and registration will be announced through our official IAFC channels.
