The IAFC is proud to announce the introduction of two new free resources to help volunteer and combination departments with recruitment and retention of volunteers.
The first resource is our long-awaited Recruitment & Retention app. This app will help departments build and manage their recruitment and retention plans and budgets, as well as develop their onboarding process.
It also includes a built-in referral system, so prospective volunteers’ information can be sent straight to the department they want to volunteer for. The department can then reach out to the candidate and run them through the onboarding process, all within the app itself. Potential candidates can also search for departments near them and send in a referral themselves.
You can find the app on the Apple App Store and the Google Play Store, or click here for more information and a link to download.
The second resource is a Fire Camp Guide. Between 2021-2024, the IAFC distributed nearly $200,000 in federal grant funding to volunteer and combination departments to help run Fire Camps for young people and underrepresented groups in the fire service. Hundreds of students attended these camps and learned that they too can become firefighters.
The Fire Camp Guide guide will help your department plan and execute a successful Fire Camp.
If you have any questions about these resources, or anything else related to volunteer recruitment & retention, please contact IAFC's Workforce Solutions staff.
