This week, the U.S. House of Representatives is scheduled to consider the Fire Grants and Safety Act (S. 870). It will require 2/3 of the votes of the House of Representatives to pass.
- Authorize $750 million for the AFG and SAFER grant programs from Fiscal Year (FY) 2024 through FY 2028.
- Delay the sunset date of the programs from September 30, 2024, to September 30, 2030.
- Authorize $95 million -- from FY 2024 through FY 2028 -- for the USFA to allow it to fund the development of the National Emergency Response Information System; develop EMS programs at USFA; and fund an effort to examine the cause of major fires and report on best practices to prevent them in the future.
The IAFC has developed a grassroots campaign to allow our members to tell their Representatives to vote for S. 870. Now is the time to contact your Representatives and ask them to pass S. 870 and save the AFG and SAFER grant programs!
