EMS Week 2023 - May 21-27

As members of the International Association of Fire Chiefs (IAFC), we know firsthand the critical role that emergency medical services (EMS) practitioners play in safeguarding the health, safety, and well-being of our communities. That's why the IAFC is proud to support EMS Week 2023: "Where Emergency Care Begins."

EMS Week, May 21 through 27, is an important opportunity for us to honor the men and women who provide emergency medical services to our communities. This annual campaign brings the EMS community together to celebrate the accomplishments of EMTs and paramedics while building awareness of their important role in the communities where they live and work. EMS practitioners are on the frontlines of emergency situations. We rely on them to provide timely intervention and critical interventions in the field that save lives and reduce long-term disability.

The Resource Center for National EMS Week (emsweek.org) includes tools for promoting and celebrating EMS Week, insight from stakeholders, and inspiring stories about EMS professionals. Six of the days of EMS Week center around specific themes and first responder organizations are encouraged to plan activities and events around these themes in their communities:

EMS Week

Sunday, May 21: Health, Wellness, and Resilience Day
Monday, May 22: EMS Education Day
Tuesday, May 23: EMS Safety Day
Wednesday, May 24: EMS for Children Day
Thursday, May 25: Save-A-Life Day (CPR & National Stop the Bleed Day)
Friday, May 26: EMS Recognition Day

As leaders in our communities, let’s show our appreciation and support for EMS practitioners during this important week. Help us spread the word.
