Application Period Extended for FY 2021 Assistance to Firefighters Grant (AFG) Program

FY 2021 AFG Application Period Extended to January 21, 2022, at 5 PM ET

FEMA has been working with the General Services Administration to remedy SAM.gov interface issues that prevented several applicants from starting their federal fiscal year (FY) 2021 Assistance to Firefighters Grant (AFG) Program applications in the FEMA GO System. Applicants who received error messages saying that their organizations were not discovered and that their Unique Entity Identifier (UEI)/Electronic Funds Transfer (EFT) combination did not exist, even though their SAM.gov accounts were fully activated, were affected by this issue.

Due to the continuing nature of this issue, the application process for the FY 2021 AFG Program will stay available until January 21, 2022, at 5 PM ET. This extension will be given to all applicants automatically. As a result, candidates affected by the UEI/EFT problem will have enough time to finish the online application. The award timeframe will not be affected by the extension of the application period. Meanwhile, FEMA continues to strongly urge applicants to study the FY 2021 AFG Program Notice of Funding Opportunity and related resources, which are available on the FEMA website at FY 2021 Assistance to Firefighters Grant (AFG) Application Guidance Materials | FEMA.gov.

In preparation for application submission, applicants may also draft their narratives separately and cut and paste them into the appropriate areas of FEMA GO once the SAM.gov interface issue is resolved. The questions asked in the narrative section may be found in the FY 2021 AFG Program Narrative Get Ready Guide.

Once the SAM.gov interface issue is resolved, applicants can independently prepare their narratives for application submission and clip and paste them into the relevant places of FEMA GO. The narrative part's questions may be found in the questions section.

If you have questions about the NOFO or application process, call or email the Fire Grants Help Desk at 1-866-274-0960 or firegrants@fema.dhs.gov.
