CFSI Week - What Fire Chiefs Need to Know

On April 19, the Congressional Fire Services Institute (CFSI) is holding its 30th annual National Fire and Emergency Services Dinner. The IAFC urges you to take the time to visit Washington DC and attend the dinner. While you are here, we ask that you meet with your Senators and Representatives!

There are a number of important issues that Congress is debating this year, including funding for the FIRE and SAFER grant programs; funding for the U.S. Fire Administration; and passing legislation to improve research into the link between firefighting and cancer. It is important that your members hear from you directly about these issues.

The IAFC has developed resources to help you prepare for your meetings on Capitol Hill:

  1. The IAFC “Hot Sheet” (PDF)– a summary of major issues that you can give to your Members of Congress and their staff.
  2. The Issues Discussion (member login required) – a description of the major issues being considered this year that you can read before your meetings.
  3. The “Legislative Update” webinar – an hour-long summary of major legislative issues presented by IAFC President and Chairman of the Board Tom Jenkins and the IAFC Government Relations and Policy staff.

We look forward to seeing you in Washington, DC next week!

Ken LaSala is the IAFC's director of government relations and policy.
