The IAFC to Commemorate Vietnam War Veterans

Fairfax, Va. – The International Association of Fire Chiefs (IAFC) is proud to serve as a commemorative partner in the commemoration of the 50th anniversary of the Vietnam War, a 13-year U.S. Department of Defense program to honor and thank a generation of Americans who bravely served the nation.

The program is calling on organizations, communities and federal, state and local government officials to commemorate the service and sacrifice of Vietnam War veterans, pay tribute to their contributions on the home front and highlight the service of the armed forces and the governmental and nongovernmental agencies that supported them.

On August 14, the IAFC will recognize Vietnam War veterans in the fire and emergency service at the general session of Fire-Rescue International (FRI) in Dallas. The IAFC will also recognize all veterans in the fire service for their continued commitment and service to the nation and their communities.

“Vietnam War veterans and all veterans deserve our highest respect and gratitude,” said Chief Bill Metcalf, IAFC president. “It’s long past due for those who returned after their military service and went on to serve their communities in the fire service to be formally praised and welcomed home.”
