Agencies advised to suspend all non-emergency activities during the week of June 14-20
Chantilly, Va. – Operating in roadways during an emergency incident is one of the most treacherous threats that first responders encounter on the job. To help mitigate the risk, the theme of the 2020 Safety Stand Down campaign is “Building a Superhighway to Safety – Protecting our Responders on Roadways.”

Safety, Health and Survival Section, the
National Volunteer Fire Council (NVFC), and the
National Fire Protection Association (NFPA), this year’s Safety Stand Down will take place June 14-20 and call attention to the hazards that responders face while performing their duties on roadways.
This important initiative encourages everyone to refresh their safety techniques and learn new skills based on current research, nationally recognized best practices, and a growing number of distracted drivers on streets and highways. The 2020 campaign offers information and insights that will help firefighters, fire officers, and policy makers to reduce loss in the fire service.
All responder agencies are encouraged to suspend all non-emergency activities during the week of June 14-20 in order to focus on training and education related to this year’s theme. An entire week has been scheduled to ensure that all shifts and personnel can participate and access the topical information, training, and videos that will be available at
www.safetystanddown.org.
The NFPA will once again host the Fire Service Safety Stand Down Quiz to foster a greater understanding of first responder health and safety issues. Everyone who completes the online quiz will be automatically entered into a sweepstakes; 200 randomly selected participants will win a commemorative Safety Stand Down challenge coin.
