New VCOS Board Members Sworn-In at Fire-Rescue International

Congratulations to Chief Brita Horn, Assistant Chief Paul Sterling, Jr., Chief Al Yancey, Jr., and Chief Kevin Hardwick

Charlotte, NC – July 29, 2021 - The International Association of Fire Chiefs’ (IAFC) Volunteer and Combination Officers Section (VCOS) congratulates the following chiefs for joining the VCOS Board of Directors as at-large members, each for three-year terms starting immediately through Fire-Rescue International 2024. They were the three top vote-getters in a very competitive election earlier this year.

  • Fire Chief Brita Horn, Rock Creek (Colorado) Volunteer Fire Dept.
  • Assistant Fire Chief Paul Sterling, Jr., Millville (Delaware) Volunteer Fire Company, Inc.
  • Fire Chief Al Yancey, Jr., Minooka (Illinois) Fire Protection District

Chiefs Horn, Sterling, and Yancey were sworn in at the IAFC’s Fire-Rescue International Conference held in Charlotte, North Carolina. Also, Chief Kevin Hardwick of Glendale (Ohio) Fire Department was sworn in as a new at-large VCOS board member from his election in 2020. He was unable to have an in-person swearing-in ceremony in 2020 due to the COVID-19 pandemic. As VCOS board members, they will participate in monthly board meetings, represent VCOS on various committees, contribute to projects/initiatives that further the volunteer and combination fire and emergency service, develop resources, and more. Many VCOS members, fire service leaders, and VCOS supporters attended the swearing-in ceremony on July 29, 2021. Photos of the swearing-in ceremony are below.
