IAFC Membership,

On behalf of the International Association of Fire Chiefs (IAFC) Board of Directors, I am saddened to announce that Chief Charles Flynn, Immediate Past Chair of the IAFC Volunteer and Combination Officers Section, passed away peacefully, surrounded by family, early this morning.

Chief Flynn has been an active IAFC and IAFC New England Division member since 2005. Chief Flynn served as Co-President of the New England Division in 2020-2021, and as Chair of the Volunteer and Combination Officers Section (VCOS) from 2018 until February of 2024.

Chief Flynn leaves behind a legacy of exceptional service and unwavering commitment to the fire service community. Current VCOS Chair, Chief Rich Cowger, described Chief Flynn “as cherished mentor and friend to many, not just within the VCOS board, but also in the broader fire service community”. Chief Flynn, and his leadership and passion for the fire and emergency services, will truly be missed by us all.

Please keep Chief Flynn’s family in your thoughts and prayers. Additional information regarding arrangements to honor the life and service of Chief Flynn will be released by the VCOS once confirmed.

Very respectfully,
